Navigating the complexities of wealth can present unique challenges for people working toward financial independence. There are specific finance-related psychological and emotional demands, including managing financial anxieties, cultivating healthy relationships with money, finding meaning and purpose beyond material success (especially in early retirement), and managing estate-related stressors. Having a financial wellness coach who is comfortable with these specific stressors,  understands various options and implications, and has a deep understanding of psychological processes is a valuable source of support.

Financial Wellness Coaching Approach

 

I understand that the specific concerns and stressors for people working toward financial independence. My financial wellness coaching approach is tailored to address these specific needs and circumstances. I bring the following skills and experiences to our work:

  • Confidentiality and Discretion:  Privacy is paramount, and I maintain the strictest confidentiality in all our interactions, not only because I am legally required to do so, but also because confidentiality is a major benefit of counseling for financial wellness. One major benefit of a financial wellness coach who understands executive and financial stressors is the ability to discuss specific problems with an independent, outside, and confidential person. Often, the specifics of any stressor are too difficult (or too revealing) to talk about with individuals inside your own social and work circles. Having someone to talk to who is outside of these circles can be a major benefit.

  • Personalized Approach: I believe in a collaborative approach where we work together closely to understand your unique challenges, goals, and values.

  • Financial Literacy: I am experienced with various financial considerations and concepts, including but not limited to estate planning and managing family dynamics, financial independence (FI) approaches and concerns, early retirement, navigating friendships, financial anxiety, checking and "tinkering", and difficulties with over-spending or over-saving. I also work with a network of individuals and can make referrals depending on your needs and interests.

  • Evidence-Based Approaches: My coaching style is based on my experience with a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and I adapt them to the specific needs of each individual.   • Stress Management Skills: Using a combination of mindfulness, relaxation, behavioral activation, and cognitive restructuring, I work with clients to develop a menu of stress management skills that can be utilized both on-demand and as a daily practice. My clients have found that effectively reducing stress is associated with better performance.

  • History of success: I have worked with many individuals preparing for retirement, those who are working toward financial independence (FI), and those who retired early (RE). I have also worked with a range of C-suite and high-level executives, as well as with high-net-worth individuals to improve their mental health, well-being, and quality of life.
     

A strong alliance built on trust and mutual respect is essential for successful outcomes. I work to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can openly explore your concerns and work towards achieving your personal and professional goals.
